F.A.Q.
What is a Scottish Fold cat?
Scottish Fold cats are a medium-sized breed known for their unique, folded ears, which give them an owl-like appearance. They have a sweet, round face, large eyes, and a plush coat. They are known for their affectionate, gentle, and friendly nature. These cats are intelligent and forgiving. They love children, so they will live well in a big family.
Why the name Scottish Fold ?
In 1961, in Scotland. A farmer named William Ross noticed a white barn cat with unusual folded ears at a nearby farm in the Tayside region of Scotland. This cat, Susie, had a natural genetic mutation that caused her ears to fold forward, giving her a distinctive appearance. When Susie later gave birth to a litter of kittens, two also had the same folded-ear trait. Int intrigued by this unique characteristic, William Ross and his wife Mary decided to acquire one of Susie’s folded-ear kittens, a female named Snooks. They began a breeding program with Snooks to develop and establish the Scottish Fold breed.
What makes Scottish Folds unique?
Scottish Folds’ defining feature is their folded ears, which are caused by a natural genetic mutation. This trait gives them a distinctive look and adds to their charm. They also have a calm temperament and are known for their playful and affectionate behavior.
Why choose Scottish Fold cat?
Scottish Fold cats are good family pets. Even if needed, they will be comfortable with a single person. They are very kind and calm and the most active at playtime. They have a balanced personality and a positive manner in playing with children, something other breeds sometimes lack.
How to care for a Scottish Fold Cats?
Scottish Folds require regular grooming, especially if they have a long coat. Regular ear cleaning is essential because their folded ears can be prone to wax build-up and infection. Maintaining a balanced diet, regular vet check-ups, and providing mental stimulation through toys and playtime are essential.
